The best apples always seem to be just out of reach...unless that is you have this fruit picker amd a long pole!I got this last year sometimes after apple season ended and have been waiting all year to try it out. Now that the early apples in New York have come, I got my chance. I'm so happy I have this!Fist of all, it picks and holds the apples perfectly. It hold numerous apples at one time and picks them without bruising them. Every now and then I needed to adjust the angle but the wingnuts made that a piece of cake. The only limitation is the length of your pole.I tried to find a flaw in the design but came up empty. Just make sure all the wingnuts are securely tightened and enjoy getting those perfect apples at the top of the tree!
Got a chance to try out this picker basket on our orange tree today and it worked great. The basket itself is similar to an older one I've been using, but doesn't have the plastic extension pole adapter like this one does that can be angled if needed. The basket is in two pieces and simply hooks together near the opening and clamps onto the adjustable pole attachment with a hand-adjustable hose clamp. It also comes with a simple foam insert for the bottom of the basket. I do find that the hooks near the top of these can score the fruit, so might be nice if the tips were coated or dipped...but seems typical of these.
These aren’t heavy duty but they work very well for general purpose just as they are designed to do.Good quality for the price and is holding up well to frequent use.
I love this fruit picker that is easy to assemble and use. It is sturdy ad light weight. It can be used in tall and short trees. It is fun to use and I look forward to all of its uses.
I borrowed a picker very much like this one (but the one I borrowed had a pole already, this one doesn't) and used it to pick pears from about 20 feet off the ground-- if the tree is ready to give up the fruit, these pickers work great. Even if it's NOT quite ready, you can still use the tines and geometry of the picker to get it picked. You DO need an ACME style pole (available in any hardware store, used for extending rollers and other purposes). Otherwise, the cage is a nice thickness (it will last and is unlikely to break) and the little cushion is a nice touch!
